This series consists of three courses: Introduction to Social Science Research, Quantitative Research Methods, and Qualitative Research Methods. Learn through assignments/quizzes, our interactive discussion board, and weekly discussion sessions. By the end of this course series, you will have sufficient knowledge of social science research methods and data analysis to be able to conduct your own simple and well-designed research project.

This section aims to introduce the main research methods used in quantitative research in the social sciences, as well as the theory and logic behind different quantitative research methods. Including three modules, the course not only introduces the basic concepts of quantitative research methodology, but also elaborates it from the aspects of finding out a research problem, measurement, sampling, data collection, data analysis, and presentation of research results. We will combine the classic and latest cases of practical research in the social science field to deepen students' understanding of quantitative research. Through the study of this course, students will be able to master the main methods of quantitative research and be able to carry out preliminary research independently.
Qualitative research helps us gather data that is hard to obtain and beyond the surface. It helps us create a holistic and descriptive picture of complex phenomena and takes us one step closer to better understanding the world around us. The applications for Qualitative Research are immense. Qualitative data can provide us with details about human behavior, emotion, and personality characteristics. It can tell us about how perceptions, opinions, and beliefs are created in communities and how these can be changed. It can also help us understand how communities are different from one another and what the needs of individuals are. It is a powerful tool for social change. Qualitative research is used in a variety of different fields and disciplines. It can help a doctor understand their patient; a politician understands their voter or a marketing executive understand their clients better. Having a good foundation in this material will give students an edge, not only in their college applications but in the job market as well.
